Pumpkin Fest 2015

Koperattiva Rurali Manikata will be holding the 8th edition of the Pumpkin Feast in the village of Manikata on Sunday 25th October 2015.  The aim of this activity is to offer a showcase of the agricultural and culinary abilities of the area and once a year bring this small picturesque village to the limelight.

The luscious sunkissed fields around Għajn Tuffieħa Valley offer the ideal environment for pumpkins to grow and therefore they are grown in abundance during the summer months.   Its versatile taste makes the pumpkin an excellent choice to mix with both savoury and sweet ingredients to produce an array of dishes.  Among the dishes being prepared this year are the savoury pumpkin pies, pumpkin soup, chicken and pumpkin risotto, pumpkin couscous, pumpkin pasta and a selection of cakes and sweets.

An advantage the pumpkin has over other vegetables is that it can be stored for months, so anyone wanting to buy fresh pumpkin at a very reasonable price should make it a point to visit the Pumpkin Feast and stock up not only on pumpkin but also on fresh fruit and vegetables grown locally by the farmers.

While having a bite to eat, one can enjoy the entertainment which this year will be provided by Country Brothers and Artemocion Malta.  The local artist Jeni Caruana will also be drawing on the spot and a bouncy castle and children’s corner will be set up.

This activity is organised by Koperattiva Rurali Manikata with the help of the Pastoral Council of the Parish of Manikata and the Mellieħa Local Council. There will be free Park and Ride services available from Ħal Ferħ car park to Manikata.
