Pumpkin Fest 2014
This year, the Pumpkin Feast in Manikata, will be taking place on Sunday 26th October. The aim of this feast is to celebrate one of the products that the farmers of Manikata cultivate with great ability and abundance. From 10am onwards one can find various stands with savoury and sweet food, all with the flavour of pumpkin. Maybe the most popular item on the day are the pumpkin pies, a typical recipe of the North West of Malta. This year there will also be new items on the menu, amongst which is the chicken risotto and pumpkin tortellini. For those with a sweet tooth there will be various cakes and pudding, all made with pumpkin.
All those who like to include pumpkins in their cooking, the Pumpkin Feast is also an opportunity to buy pumpkins, which can be kept on a window sill all year round and then used for soups, pies and sweets. The farmers will also be selling fresh local vegetables on the day.
This is an activity for all the family, where everyone can find something they like, with regards to food and entertainment. This year the entertainment will be provided by the Country Brothers, while Martin Bezzina Wettinger will be doing some artistic pumpkin carving. For those who would like to start their Christmas shopping there will be various stands to choose from.
Therefore, if you want to see the village of Manikata in a different light, where the usual peace and silence is broken, the Pumpkin Feast is the ideal occasion to visit. This activity is organised by Koperattiva Rurali Manikata with the help of the Pastoral Council of the Parish of Manikata and the Mellieħa Local Council. There will be free Park and Ride services available from Ħal Ferħ car park to Manikata.
