Time International, planting trees as part of the Olive Green project

Il-Koperattiva Rurali Manikata qed tinvesti f’industrija taż-żebbuġ. Għal dan il-għan nediet il-Proġett Olive Green li permezz tiegħu instabu sponsors għal siġar taż-żebbuġ biex jitqassmu lill-bdiewa membri tagħha sabiex iħawluhom fl-għelieqi li dawn għandhom fil-Manikata u l-madwar, fosthom fl-inħawi tar-Razzett tal-Qasam. Dan bil-ħsieb li l-membri tagħha jiġu mħajra sabiex jirkupraw lura għall-użu agrikolu għelieqi li llum jinsabu abbandunati billi jdawruhom f’ġonna taż-żebbuġ. Il-mira hi li fi żmien ftit snin il-Koperattiva jkollha l-magna tal-għasir tagħha fir-Razzett tal-Qasam sabiex tipproduċi żejt taż-żebbuġa taħt it-tikketta tal-Koperattiva minn żebbuġ prodott mill-membri tagħha. Fl-istess waqt dawk li jżuru r-Razzett tal-Qasam ikunu jistgħu jsegwu l-proċess mill-qtugħ sa l-għasir u l-ibbottiljar.

Sa issa permezz tal-proġett Olive Green KRM Ltd. diġa ħawlet madwar 700 siġra taż-żebbuġ fl-għelieqi tal-membri. Il-Koperattiva tħeġġeġ lil dawk l-organizzazzjonijiet u individwi interessati li jisponsorjaw siġar taż-żebbuġ sabiex jikkuntattjawna fuq info@manikatafarmers.com. Kull siġra tiswa €6.

An abandoned field turned into an olive
grove thanks to the Olive Green Project
The Koperattiva Rurali Manikata is investing in an olive industry. For this purpose it has launched the Olive Green Project. With the help of of sposorships by individuals, groups and industries we have purchased a number of olive trees that are being distributed among the members of the cooperative to plant them in fields they have at Il-Manikata and its surroundings, including the area around Ir-Razzett tal-Qasam. The aim is to entice its members to restore abandoned fields back to agricultural use by turning them into olive groves. The cooperative aims to install its own olive press at Ir-Razzett tal-Qasam to produce its olive oil from olives cultivated in Manikata. At the same time, people visiting Ir-Razzett tal-Qasam will be able to watch the whole process, from picking to pressing and bottling.

Up till now, through the Olive Green Project KRM Ltd. has planted 700 olive trees in the fields of its members. The cooperative invites organisations and individuals interested in sponsoring olive trees to contact us at info@manikatafarmers.com. Each olive tree costs €6.
